Orthodontic Treatment of Double Maxillary Canine Impaction on the Palate, Georgia Orthodontic Care
Maxillary canine impaction can be either on the labial or palatal side, which palatal impaction is more common than that of the labial one. The orthodontic treatment of impacted maxillary canine can be very challenging. It usually involves surgical exposure of the impacted tooth, followed by orthodontic traction to guide and align it into the dental arch. Bone loss, root resorption, and gingival recession around the treated teeth are some of the most common complications. Shown here is the case with both palatally impacted canines.

Anterior dental crossbite is defined as palatal positioning of the maxillary anterior teeth relative to the mandibular anterior teeth when the jaws are closed. It can involve single tooth or multiple teeth. The causes of crossbite can be hereditary, delayed tooth eruption or an abnormally erupted tooth. It is recommended to have it fix as soon as possible to prevent irreversible damage to permanent teeth and to normalize jaw growth.

Lower Incisor Extraction in Case of Tooth Size Discrepancy, Georgia Orthodontic Care
In certain cases such as anterior tooth size discrepancy due to narrow maxillary incisors and/or large mandibular incisors, slightly class III canine relationship with crowding on lower anterior, etc. lower incisor extraction can be a good orthodontic treatment option. It can result in good facial esthetics and well occluded posterior teeth. Shown here is the result of a case with lower incisor extraction where patient has smaller upper lateral insiors.

Class II division 2 treated without extraction, Georgia Orthodontic Care, Lawrenceville & Norcross, 30043
Class II patients usually present with underlying skeletal discrepancy between maxilla and mandible. The lower jaw is positioned far back from the upper jaw. Unlike class II division 1 (buck teeth), Class II division 2 malocclusion is characterized by the upright and retroclined position of upper central incisors in conjunction with excess vertical overbite and an excessive interincisal angle. The treatment of skeletal class II division 2 is similar to those of class II division 1. It depends upon the age of the patient, patient’s facial profile, growth potential, severity of malocclusion, and compliance of patient with treatment. In growing individuals, growth modification procedures can be carried out before the cessation of active growth to correct the skeletal discrepancy using functional appliances after level and alignment phase. Shown below is before and after of a typical class II division 2 patient treated at our office without extraction.
