Early Treatment on Severe Class II Patient

Image
Class II early orthodontic treatment focuses on correcting a misalignment where the upper teeth and jaw significantly overlap the lower teeth and jaw—commonly known as an overjet/overbite. Early treatment, usually started between the ages of 7 and 10, takes advantage of a child’s natural growth to guide the development of the jaws and teeth into better alignment. In addition to braces, appliances may be used to encourage forward growth of the lower jaw or restrict forward growth of the upper jaw. Early intervention can reduce the severity of the problem, shorten future treatment time with braces, and potentially eliminate the need for tooth extractions or jaw surgery later. The goal is not always to complete treatment at this stage, but to set the foundation for a more stable and efficient orthodontic result during adolescence.  Check out our Instagram page @gaorthocare or Flickr page at  Georgia Orthodontic Care’s albums | Flickr  to see more cases treated in our office...

Orthodontic Treatment of Double Maxillary Canine Impaction on the Palate, Georgia Orthodontic Care

Image
Maxillary canine impaction can be either on the labial or palatal side, which palatal impaction is more common than that of the labial one.  The orthodontic treatment of impacted maxillary canine can be very challenging.  It usually involves surgical exposure of the impacted tooth, followed by orthodontic traction to guide and align it into the dental arch. Bone loss, root resorption, and gingival recession around the treated teeth are some of the most common complications. Shown here is the case with both palatally impacted canines.
